Two PhD scholarships from ARC DECRA project
Two PhD student scholarships are available, interested students with a strong desire to pursue a doctoral degree are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will receive an annual stipend of $33,000 tution fee + $25,000 living allowance, and work with Prof. Hong Hao and Dr Kaiming Bi on the ARC DECRA project "Using sandwich pipe for pipeline vibrationn control". MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATION: Bachelor degree (first class honours or equivalent academic/research achievement) in Civil Engineering or related fields, and other general admission requirements provided at http://research.curtin.edu.au/guides/hdrguidelines/admission.cfm and language requirement (IELTS, Overall 6.5, Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening 6.0; or TOEFL, 570 paper based, 230 computer based or 92 internet based (23 each section)) at http://students.curtin.edu.au/local/docs/English_List.pdf. Applicants with Master degrees with technical publications and research experiences in structural dynamics, earthquake engineering and vibration control are preferred.

Australian Postgraduate Award (APA)/ Curtin University Postgraduate Scholarship (CUPS)
Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) and Curtin University Postgraduate Scholarships (CUPS) are awarded to students of exceptional research potential undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR) at Curtin in 2014. APA are government funded scholarships and CUPS are Curtin funded scholarships.
The APA and CUPS provide an annual living allowance of $24,653 (2013 value). This stipend is indexed annually and is tax-free unless taken on a part-time basis. The APA and CUPS also provide a thesis allowance and a relocation allowance for successful applicants who relocate from another Australian state to take up these awards at Curtin University. All successful APA applicants will receive a Curtin Research Scholarships (CRS) providing an attractive total scholarship package of $32,500 per annum tax free. All successful CUPS applicants will also receive a Curtin Research Scholarships (CRS) providing a total scholarship package of $27,500 per annum tax free. The tenure of these awards is for a period of two years for a Master by Research and three years for a Doctoral study. Extension of up to six months may be applicable for a Doctoral degree only. The tenure will be reduced by any prior studies already completed in the awarded course.
Applicants must:
- be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen; or
- be an Australian Permanent Resident; and
- have completed four years of higher education studies at a high level of achievement;
- hold or expect to obtain, First Class Honours or equivalent results;
- be enrolled in or accepted to enrol in a Higher Degree by Research as a full-time student in 2014.
Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships
Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships are internationally competitive, merit-based scholarships provided by the Australian Government that support citizens of the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas to undertake study, research and professional development programs in Australia and for Australians to undertake these programs overseas. The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships program forms part of the Australia Awards initiative established in 2009, which brings together under one banner scholarships offered by the Department of Education (the Department), Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research.
The Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships build Australia’s reputation for excellence in the provision of education, support the internationalisation of the Australian higher education and research sectors and offer high-achieving Australians opportunities to increase their knowledge and expertise in their field.

International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS)/ Curtin Strategic International Research Scholarship (CSIRS)
The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) scheme was established to maintain and develop international research linkages and specifically aims to:
- attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the Australian higher education sector; and
- support Australia's research effort.
In addition to IPRS, Curtin has a number of Strategic International Research Scholarships (CSIRS) available for commencement in 2014. Eligible students who are not successful in the 2014 IPRS round but whose area of research aligns with one of Curtin's Strategic Areas listed below, will automatically be assessed for Curtin Strategic International Research Scholarship (CSIRS).
Value
The International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) provides:
- course tuition fee for two years for a Masters by Research and three years for a Doctoral degree; and
- Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the recipient and their dependants for the duration of the award.
In addition, all successful applicants will receive an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) valued at $24,653 (2013 value) for living allowance. This tax-free stipend is indexed annually.
Curtin Strategic International Research Scholarship (CSIRS) provides:
- course tuition fee for three years for a Doctoral degree; and
- basic single overseas health cover (OSHC) for the recipient; and
- a stipend equivalent to that of the APA per annum tax free for the duration of your study.
